A record 14 Emmy wins put Massachusetts in the spotlight — from local jobs and businesses to tourism.
Apple TV’s hit series Widow’s Bay, filmed across Massachusetts, made history this week earning 14 Emmy Awards! This marks the most ever for a comedy series in a single year, including Outstanding Comedy Series, with additional honors for writing, directing, acting, casting, production design, cinematography, sound, and more.
The production was based at New England Studios in Devens for seven months and filmed for more than 80 days across 13 Massachusetts cities and towns: Ayer, Berlin, Devens, Essex, Gloucester, Groton, Harvard, Maynard, Rockport, Shirley, Sudbury, Wayland, and Worcester.
Boston Casting, a Massachusetts business serving the region’s production industry for more than 30 years, also shared in the Emmy recognition. Co-owners Angela Peri and Lisa Lobel earned their first Emmys as part of the team recognized for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series. The series also earned an Emmy for Outstanding Production Design.
The local impact continues long after filming has wrapped. The show’s distinctive Massachusetts locations are now generating growing tourism interest, with Travel + Leisure highlighting the real-life locations fans can visit, and CBS Boston reporting that visitors are already coming to Rockport to seek out filming sites as interest in Widow’s Bay-themed tours gains momentum.
