Filmed in Massachusetts, the dramatic series on Apple TV+ premieres April 24th.
On Friday, April 24th, Apple TV+ will premiere the dramatic episodic series “Defending Jacob”. Based upon the NY Times bestseller by Newton author William Landay and starring Sudbury native Chris Evans, the series was filmed in Massachusetts from February through September in 2019.
Over 900 MA residents were employed by the production including crew, principal, and background actors.
"Defending Jacob" was based at New England Studios in Devens, filming 8 episodes in 26 different cities and towns including: Ayer, Belmont, Concord, Danvers, Erving, Framingham, Harvard, Hudson, Leominster, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Natick, Needham, Newton, North Andover, Salem, Shirley, Sudbury, Sunderland, Walpole, Waltham, Watertown, Wellesley, and Worcester.
A number of these communities received direct compensation for the use of locations including Belmont ($20,000 earmarked for police station renovation), Newton ($35,000 for use of parks and school playground filming), Malden ($8,500 for a senior event), and Shirley ($29,000 to support summer camp for kids while filming at their school).
