Join us for the 2026 edition of Camera Bootcamp — a dynamic, hands-on workshop led by camera professionals working on major film and television productions.
This full-day program offers practical insight into the range of crafts, responsibilities, and equipment used by a professional camera department. From department structure and workflow to hands-on demonstrations of industry-standard gear, participants will gain a real understanding of how camera teams operate on film, television, and commercial productions.
Whether you are embarking on a career in the field or seeking to strengthen existing skills, Camera Bootcamp offers an invaluable opportunity to build knowledge, refine technique, and expand your network with working camera professionals.
What to Expect:
Session 1: The Fundamentals of On Set Roles (9:30 - 10:30 am)
Explore the essential responsibilities of key positions — from Director of Photography and Camera Operator to 1st AC, 2nd AC, Loader, and Utility.
Learn best practices from pre-production through wrap, along with set etiquette, and the terminology used within a professional camera department.
Session 2: Breakout Demos (10:30 am - 3:00 pm)
Attendees rotate through hands-on breakout sessions focused on the tasks and equipment central to the work of the 1st AC, 2nd AC, Loader, and Utility. Demonstrations include camera builds and breakdowns, accessory configuration, lens and filter handling, actor marking and slating, media management, and working with wireless video systems.
Session 3: Career Panel and Q&A (3:00 - 4:00 pm)
The day concludes with a moderated discussion featuring working camera crew. The conversation will address career pathways in the camera department, union and non-union work environments, on-set safety, and expectations for working on professional productions, followed by audience Q&A.
Thank you to our Camera Bootcamp steering committee, and members of the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 IATSE:
