The Business of Freelancing
Tuesday, November 10th. 6:00 - 8:30 pm.
Lesley University, College of Art & Design
A successful freelance career requires more than knowing your craft. It also means understanding how to manage the business of your work, make informed financial decisions, and find ways to sustain and grow your career as the industry evolves.
Join us for a practical conversation about the financial and professional realities of freelancing – bringing together producers, filmmakers, crew and craft professionals, and financial experts to share their experiences, insights, and advice.
The seminar will explore topics from business structures, work agreements, and negotiating rates to managing income and expenses, navigating taxes, and planning for periods between jobs. We'll also discuss ways to market your skills, diversify income, develop new opportunities, and adapt to a changing industry.
Through an open discussion and audience Q&A, we'll look at the tools, strategies, and resources that can help freelance professionals better manage their careers and prepare for what's ahead.
Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance to help shape the discussion.
