20 Days in Mariupol

Join us for a special talk with Michelle Mizner, Producer and Editor at FRONTLINE, on the 2024 Academy Award-winning documentary "20 Days in Mariupol." This important feature follows an AP team of Ukrainian journalists who, trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol, courageously document the atrocities of the Russian invasion. As the last international reporters remaining in the city, their work provides some of the most defining images of the war.

Michelle will share insights into the challenges of producing this powerful documentary and the impact it has had on global awareness of the conflict. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the making of a landmark film that brought the realities of war to the forefront of international consciousness. View the full film here.

Moderated by Bestor Cram; Founder & Senior Producer, Northern Light Productions.

Max Esposito, Director
Flashpoint: Protests, Policing, and the Press

As part of the LA Times’ Oscar-winning Short Docs series, “Flashpoint: Protests, Policing, and the Press” examines the eroding relationship within the United States between journalists covering protests and law enforcement, and discusses the implications those tensions have on democracy at large. Directed by Max Esposito, Flashpoint was commissioned by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, an organization committed to protecting freedoms of speech and the press.

Using an abundance of sourced footage, first-hand accounts from journalists as well as interviews with First Amendment scholars and lawyers, the film paints a stark picture of U.S. law enforcement’s collective infringement of the rights of journalists, not only in recent years but dating back to the Civil Rights era. View the full film here.

Moderated by Sabrina Avilés; Independent Filmmaker & Executive Director, CineFest Latino Boston.
