Camera Bootcamp

Saturday, March 18th. 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Red Sky Studios

Lunch Included

We are thrilled to offer a new program to support educational opportunities in the field with a special Camera Bootcamp workshop on March 18th.

Led by working camera professionals, this daylong program will demonstrate and give attendees deep insights into the various crafts in the camera department on film and television productions.

Whether you are starting out in the field, or already have experience and are looking to strengthen your knowledge, this workshop will be a valuable opportunity to learn and grow your network with local crew and rental houses.

Program Outline

Session 1: On Set Roles and Fundamentals

Overview of the roles and responsibilities on set from the DP and Camera Operator, to 1st AC, 2nd AC, Loader and Utility.

In the first part of the day, we’ll cover the essential skills and responsibilities for each role, and what to expect from prep to wrap. We’ll also cover the equipment and technology deployed on set, set etiquette, and terminology used in the field.

Session 2: Breakout Demos

Attendees will rotate through 3 breakout sessions in smaller groups with demos on the tasks and equipment used by the 1st AC, 2nd AC, Loader and Utility.

In these breakout groups we’ll dive deeper into how to set up a camera and its accessories,  handle lenses and filters, mark actors, slate, manage media, work with wireless video, and more.

Session 3: Career Panel and Q&A

We’ll wrap up the day in a discussion with camera crew about career paths, safety on set, job rates, and answers to your questions.

Thank you to the Camera Bootcamp steering committee, members of International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 IATSE:
