Smart Budgeting is a 3-part series focused on commercial producing for agency producers, production teams, in-house agencies, account services, corporate marketing teams, and freelance producers. Each workshop is led by a group of industry veterans from each of these aspects of producing among others.
Workshop 1: The Overview. April 3rd
Workshop 2: Line Producers Tell All. May 1st
Workshop 3: Where It All Begins, Brand Managers. June 12th
Line Producers Tell All
In Workshop 1 we looked at how the commercial production budget is formed. We talked about the building of the bid. Now let’s talk about what happens when a project budget is active. The spot has been “awarded” and goes from the EP’s hands to a line producer. Game on! Typical timeline is 10-14 working days from award through the shoot. How does the line producer manage this? Let’s have a Line Producer’s tell all.
Our panel will include examples of a spot they produced where something changed in production causing a decision to be made that impacts the budget. What happens now?
Detailed considerations include..
What makes it a change in scope.
What are the problems and options to solve.
What are the budget impacts.
What is that process for issuing an overage? What fees make up an overage? Mark-ups explained.
Are other vendors part of the solution?
Do we “fix it in post” – did the client pay overage or was money compromised from another part of budget?
