MPC Board Member and Professor / Head of Production from Boston University's Film & Television program will share insights from his newly published book "The SHORT! Guide to Producing: The Practical Essentials of Producing Short Films" - now available from Focal Press. Drawing on insights from real scenarios and conversations with industry leaders, this wonderful resource breaks down the essential techniques and logistics of producing short films, while managing and promoting a successful film production.
Guest Speaker
Mike Ryan, Producer & President of Greyshack Films
Mike S. Ryan is president of GREYSHACK FILMS and a veteran of the independent film community who started in the industry’s 90’s heyday with films like Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm and Todd Haynes’ Far from Heaven. As a prolific producer and executive producer, he has over 30 credits and helped realize many groundbreaking films over the last fifteen years, most made under $3 million. His films have garnered nominations and prizes from the Academy Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards and many more.
Greyshack Films is a development and production entity committed to creative, thought-provoking, energetic new cinema designed within a low-budget model. GPS, Greyshack's production services arm, facilitates and supports production, from script to post, including European co-productions.
Mike has taught workshops and given lectures at universities and festivals across the country and writes criticism for the online site Hammer to Nail, which he cofounded with Ted Hope, and as a regular contributor to Filmmaker Magazine.
